First week in Tokyo, Japan

Misha McKoyStudied in Tokyo, Japan

The start of this week was the end of my first time in Kyoto! For the break in-between summer sessions I spent my time exploring with new friends I made from the hostel I stayed in named Suzuki’s Guest House. I would highly recommend staying there if you’d like to travel to Kyoto too! I spent my last day there walking by shops and trying all the samples and buying some sweets for later with an old friend and past UMB exchange student. The sunset from the top of the hill we were walking on was so pretty.

Afterwards we rushed to see a well known street in Gion and had a few minutes to spare in a vintage oddities shop we stumbled upon. Then we booked it to the bus station for me to catch my night bus back to Tokyo. This was my second time on a night bus. It was similar to the first where the windows of the entire passenger cabin is covered by blackout curtains. When I tell you I thought we were getting taken! Boy! I was too nervous to leave the bus when we arrived at the pit stops, because I never heard when we should be back. But I really needed to use the rest room this time. Thankfully there was a sign the driver put on the dashboard so I knew how much time I had. As I walked to the restroom I took in the cool morning breeze and the sights around me. When I turned to look back towards the bus you wouldn’t believe what I saw. Could it be? Mount Fuji, just sitting there! Chillin’!? It could’ve been a fever dream for all know. It was Mount Fuji in my heart.
